Eastern Iowa NAWCA Grant

FarWide is very excited to announce that the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission has approved FarWide’s grant proposal, “Cedar-Wapsi Valley Wetlands V,” was submitted through the North American Wetlands Conservation Act program.  This $2.3 million proposal includes a series of projects in eastern Iowa, including important habitat acquisition projects that will not only protect important wildlife habitat, but also provide additional opportunities for the public to enjoy hunting, hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. Included in the proposal is $520,000 to acquire additional land and restore wetlands on the Muskrat Slough Wildlife Management Area and over $900,000 that will be used to acquire and restore additional lands on the Green Island Wildlife Management Area.  FarWide has twenty-seven partners involved in this project!!!  Some of these important partners include the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, several county conservation boards, numerous local Pheasants Forever and Whitetails Unlimited chapters, the Dubuque County Conservation Society, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.  A special “thank you” to Matt McQuillen, local landowner and conservation champion who has been instrumental in building this vast partnership over many years.
